Placer County Beach Volleyball DonLet me start off by introducing myself. My name is Don Vanderloo. I'm the webmaster, designer, marketer and every other title for Placer County Beach Volleyball. I've been playing 2-man sand volleyball since 1986. My partner and I won two tournaments in the "A" division back in early 90's, and have placed in a handful of others since reuniting some years back. As of this post, I'm 46.95 years young.

Back in the day, we had a core group of guys that would play 5 to 6 days a week. Over time, guys got married, moved on to careers or moved away forcing me into what seemed an early retirement from the game. Three or four years passed before I latched onto another group that was primarily playing grass doubles. It wasn't my game, but at least I was back on the court. Eventually the game migrated back to sand, and we had a solid group playing one or two days a week. I dubbed us The Kaseberg Kronies because we were then playing at Kaseberg Park in Roseville.

Fast forward to about 2009 when we started to see our numbers again start to decline as the injury bug set in and once again guys moved on to other endeavors. For the past few years I've tried in vain to recruit some new blood, but have been mostly unsuccessful. Though I'm staring 50 in the face, I know that the body's still got game, and the few guys that we have left are as competitive as ever. Problem is that when you only have three or four guys committed, it's hard to play on a regular basis - thus, the inspiration for this site.

Placer County Beach Volleyball is my latest brainchild to keep the game alive. There are absolutely NO FEES of any kind to join or participate. We have nets, lines, volleyballs and hoses. These days we play primarily at Harry Crabb Park in Roseville because it has all the amenities that we need including water spigots and four courts with fresh, deep sand. There is also a nice covered area with barbecues and a drinking fountain. Neither myself nor any member of Placer County Beach Volleyball is looking to make any money by creating this community. My goal is simple: to grow our numbers again and get back to playing competitive A-level 2-man sand volleyball on a regular basis. Period. No strings attached.

Admittedly we are a group of mostly guys, but that doesn't mean that women aren't invited to play. If you're an A-level lady beach volleyball player who can tolerate us "boys", come on down! Our only requirements (for both men and women) are: NO jungle ball, 2-man play only and CBVA (old school) rules.
If you're a beer drinker, that's a plus too! If you're competitive, welcome aboard just check the attitude at the door. Yeah, we spew the trash talk but it's all fun and games. If you can't differentiate between the two, then this probably isn't for you.

The benefits of membership include:

  • Samplings of my homebrew from time to time.
†This is an 'invitational', so you'll only be invited to participate if you've played consistently throughout the year. The invitees are at the discretion of the tournament host.

This is a member driven community, and being a one-man operation I'm ALWAYS open to ways to enhance the experience and drive membership. If you have any suggestions, ideas or additions that you would like to see on our site, please send them to me. I'm currently working on some affiliations in the hope that I might get some benefits for our members from volleyball wholesalers or retailers. As well, I'm in touch with some private and community agencies hoping to form partnerships and get the word out that we're looking for players.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND, THIS IS NOT A REC LEAGUE. We don't get together to burn calories or learn how to play volleyball. We are, and are looking for, established, competitive, 2-man sand players with advanced skills. Beginners and intermediates will not be comfortable with the pace of the game that we play, nor will we with yours. Apologies for the bluntness, but it's a fact.

If this sounds like something you're in to, sign up and let's get playing! If you have any questions at all about Placer County Beach Volleyball, please don't hesitate to contact me directly by clicking here. I look forward to seeing our community grow, and getting back on the court to play some competitive volleyball!spike
